Nursing Employment History:

Staff Nurse / Shift Charge – Emergency Room (48 Hrs./Week)

Riyadh Medical Complex has 1500 beds capacity, which is a Referral and Training Institution for Nursing Medical and other allied Medical Profession.

I am working in Accident & Emergency Room, which consist of both Medical and Surgical Emergencies.

I have been rotated through Emergency Recovery Room, Observation Room, Orthopedic Room, Examination & Minor Operation Room.

Emergency Recovery Room

Emergency Recovery Room has 18 beds capacity which deals with serious patients such as Head Injury, Cardiopulmonary, Burns, Drug Overdose, Neurological and Multiple Trauma cases that needs close monitoring and Ventilator assistance and have two patients to one Nurse ratio or case to case basis.

Emergency Observation Room

Emergency Observation Room consists of 40 beds deals with Less Serious Patients, such as Bronchial Asthma, Adult Appendicitis, Biliary Colic, Renal Colic, Atypical Chest Pain etc. and have three patients to one nurse ratio.

Orthopedic Emergency Room

Orthopedic Emergency Room deals with Fracture Case, Dislocation Shoulders and Elbows, Sprain, Strain etc.

Medical & Surgical Examination Rooms

Medical & Surgical Examination Rooms handles minor cases like, Headache, Anxiety, Abdominal Pain etc.

Minor Operation Room

Minor Operation Room handles suturing of all Lacerated wounds, Cut Tendons, Superficial Foreign Body Removal, Dental Wiring etc.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Assess life threatening conditions, Airway, Breathing, Circulation, and other indications of emergencies, such as Shock, Chest pain, Spinal Injuries, Uncontrolled Bleeding.
  • Establish priority of needs, greatest risk receives priority
  • Perform Nursing Assessment Plan, Implement & Evaluate nursing care rendered
  • Observe and monitor clearly patient and report undue development to the Physician as needed
  • Nursing documentation in a brief, accurate, and complete manner
  • Indicate CPR during Cardiopulmonary Arrest
  • Assist Anesthetist during Intubation
  • ECG taking and basic ECG interpretation
  • Provide Health Teaching to patient like Dietary and Activity Restriction
  • Collect blood samples necessary for blood investigation
  • Insertion of Foleys Catheter / Condom Catheter / Nasogastric Tube
  • Assist Physician during CVP insertion cut down
  • Operate Certain equipment used in the unit
  • Administer Oral and IV drugs as ordered by the doctor
  • Management of fracture cases include
  • Application of splint to stabilize fractures skin traction, Thomas Splint etc.
  • Observe for early signs of shock
  • Assisting with closed reduction and plastering
  • Observe for Neurocirculatory Impairment

  • Road Traffic Accidents with multiple severe injury, (Pneumothorax, SDH) Spinal Injury
